So I grew up in Mildura, a country town about 6 hours out of Melbourne. As a kid, I was a huge Pro-Wrestling and basketball fan. I played 10-15 years of basketball as a kid but then started dabbling in powerlifting as local gym down the road had a few of my friends training there.
I never moved any serious numbers, (Although I did win an Australian Sub-Junior national title), I just really enjoyed training, competing and trying to get stronger. And I was obsessed with it, I would compete knowing sometimes I wouldn't win, but I knew the experience of competing in this sport would make a better lifter. It was probably 2-3 years after I started lifting that my fandom of Pro Wrestling lead me into a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school. I trained for 2 years at home, before moving down Melbourne to study. Wanting to continue my training, I was lucky enough to get 2-3 years of experience under BJJ Black Belts Bernie Jenkins and Brett Tamblyn. I was lucky enough to receive my Blue Belt under Bernie.
By now I really wanted to get into MMA, and fight, one day my training partner got a call that 5-time Olympic Wrestler Cris Brown had an MMA fight coming and up and was looking for sparring partners. My training partner was a lot more experienced than me but I was tagging along and doing everything I could to get involved with the session and to get exposure to these high level guys.
Long story short, Cris beat the shit out me that day.
This lead me to training full time under Cris Brown, and with guys like Dom Chev and Travers Grubb on the mat, I knew I had to be training with them. And there were other cheeky blue belts named Aidan Aguilera and Jordan Cameron hanging around too who have all already had fights on what I thought then was the big show.
I have been involved with some fantastic gyms, and clubs, such as Absolute MMA, and have been exposed to some fantastic fighters. But since Cris and Jordan opened up Adrenaline MMA in 2012 we have never looked back.
5 years on, I was lucky enough to receive my Purple belt along with Aidan and Jordan (at the 2014 Christmas party), have an undefeated amateur record of 4-0, and now hold a professional record of 4-2, and have been lucky enough to train for a short period of time internationally at world renowned clubs Team Alpha Male (UFC Hall of famer Uriah Faber) and Syndicate MMA (John Wood, and UFC veteran/Professional Wrestler Tom Lawlor).
