Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling that, along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. It is one of the oldest sports in history, and an absolute must for Mixed Martial Arts.
The goal is to throw and pin your opponent to the mat, which results in an immediate win. Freestyle wrestling, unlike Greco-Roman, allows the use of the wrestler's or his opponent's legs in offense and defence, which makes it more applicable for MMA. Freestyle wrestling is the most complete style of standup wrestling and brings together traditional wrestling, judo and sambo techniques.
Our wrestling classes are run by 5-time Olympian and multiple multiple time national champion, Cris Brown, who offers an unmatched level of experience in this field throughout Australia. This class runs three times a week and is a great compliment to MMA and BJJ training.
These classes run for 45 mins.
My fitness level isn't currently great, can I still try this class?
-Your fitness level will improve over time in the class. You will find you will be tired in this class no matter how fit you are until your technique improves.
I have no Wrestling experience, is that a problem?
-No problem at all, this class is suitable for people with absolutely no experience.
Do I Need a partner?
-Starting training at a new gym can be fun with a friend, but you do not have a organise to have a partner for each class. Just come on in.
What equipment do I need?
-All you will need is comfortable workout clothes, (shorts and a t-shirt) and a mouthguard, the class will run barefoot on mats. Wrestling shoes are fine to wear on the mats.
